Why we love LG solar panels
Well where do we start…LG Electronics have been at the top of the solar game for a long time.
The LG panel excels in every field. Warranty, efficiency, performance, aesthetics, back up service and company bankability.
Their biggest advantage is their industry leading 25 year product and labour warranty. When we consider this warranty we need to consider the bankability of the company who is supporting it. LG Electronics has been operating since 1958 and involved in solar power since 1985. Their global annual turnover for 2016 was $47.91 Billion dollars….yes billion! With this kind of history and success you can be assured that your investment and warranty will be safe for the 25 year duration.
Isn’t a solar panel a solar panel?
The short answer is….No
The LG NeON 2 panel is a leading panel in terms of efficiency. In simple terms the panels make more power per meter squared then their competitors. In comparison to the standard 300W panel on the market the LG NeON 2 produces an impressive 13% more power per meter squared! This is especially important if you have limited roof space or areas of the roof that are unusable do to shading. Unfortunately it is becoming all too common that we have enquiries for customers to increase the size of their existing systems that have used lower quality 275W-300W panels. To achieve the initial size system the customer requested the majority or all of the roof space has to be used. The only option these customers have is to remove the panels and replace them with higher efficiency panels.
The LG NeON 2 panels all come with a matte black frame and black solar cells. This makes for a uniformed appearance on the roof. We think these panels are the best looking on the market.
These panels are built to last, the standard panels on the market come with a aluminum frame with a width of 35mm. The LG panels do not compromise on strength with their 40mm frame. The panels have a wind rating of 5400 Pascals compared to their competitors 2400 Pascals. Over the lifetime of the panel the performance warranty states that the panel will produce at least 90.08% of its rated output after 25 years, this is compared to the industry standard 80%.
LG panels come with a maximum severity 6 corrosion rating on all panels. This means that they can be safely installed on coastal properties without the risk of damage.
We have been installing hundreds LG panels for years without a single warranty issue. In our opinion there is no safer investment in solar then to go with these premium panels!!
Why we love Trina Panels!
Trina is our proffered panel for customers who are looking for a great solar system but are not necessarily looking for the best of the best.
Trina is the second biggest Solar panel manufacturer on the planet! They have a strong presence in the Australian market.
With their new 370W panel we can reduce system cost by having fewer panels on the roof reducing labour and associated costs.
Our warts and all opinions.
With all products at the budget end of the product spectrum, there are some sacrifices.
• Trina panels are made in China.
• The panels are less efficient, this means they need to be physically bigger than an LG panel to produce the same amount of output.
• Trina come with a 12-year product warranty
• Trina comes with a 25-year performance warranty claiming 84.9 retained output after 25 years.
• Compared to LG Trina is not as diversified meaning your warranty isn’t as secure as an LG system.
• With Trina’s split cell design in our opinion the panel isn’t as aesthetically pleasing as the LG panels.

Why Fronius Inverters
We have been recommending Fronius inverters since we first started doing solar installations. They are our premium string inverter brand for good reason. The current ten year warranty is the best in the industry and their back up support is second to none. The inverter has great solar design characteristics meaning we can utilize it in most standard unshaded installs. The inverter also comes with its own DC isolator which means we can have a neater install and it is arguably safer. We also think it is the best looking string inverter on the market! It kind of looks like a spaceship!
The inverter comes standard with Wifi connectivity. This enables us to connect it wirelessly to your home internet router. Once your install is completed we will set you up with a login on fronius’ online platform Solar.web, this will enable you to remotely see what your system is producing. The system will also send you a notification if there is an issue with the inverter. If there is an issue we can log in remotely and diagnose the problem. Fronius’ service department can also log in to diagnose any technical issues remotely. This ensures if there is ever a problem you will be back online and saving money in the quickest possible time!

Solar edge are our preferred inverters for sites with partial shading and customers who are looking for a smarter solar system. Another great feature is their Safe DC system. This system shuts down the DC power from the roof in the event of a fault.
Monitoring Advantages Solar edge give the option for the customer to view the production of each panel individually. This gives assurance that each of your panels is doing exactly what they are supposed too! For customers looking to have an optimised system but are not interested in the per panel monitoring solar edge provide an option for no panel level monitoring at a discounted price. A solar edge system allows for easy fault finding in the future if you ever have a panel failure. The system will tell us exactly which panel that needs to be replaced ensuring a trouble free warranty claim.
Solar edge also has the longest warranty of any inverter option with a 12 warranty on the inverter and a 25 year warranty on their power optimizers which mount underneath each panel.

Why Enphase micro inverters
Enphase IQ7+ micro inverters are arguably the best inverter solution on the market. The list of advantages of this system is extensive. This system is the most versatile, reliable and safest on the market today. With all these advantages this is also the most expensive solution, we believe the extra expense is well and truly worth it. There are some homes that this is the only viable solution due to shading issues or difficult roof shapes/orientations.
Enphase micro inverters are mounted underneath each panel instead of having a large inverter in your garage. This means that the DC-AC conversion is done on the roof. Why is this important? In a string inverter system the DC electricity can be up to 600V, this voltage is sent down to the string inverter in the garage. If there is a situation where the solar power needs to be completely turned off the only option is to turn off the roof top isolator or wait till the sun goes down, this is problematic. With the enphase system if the power is turned off in the main switchboard then the micro inverters “island” themselves and the cable running up to the roof is de-energised.
Partial Shading advantages.
In a string inverter system if one panel is shaded or partially shaded it affects the production of the other panels connected too it. In a micro inverter system each panel operates individually, a shaded panel is isolated from the rest of the system meaning limited production losses. Over the life of a system this means a substantial amount of additional power is generated.
In a string inverter system if the inverter fails then the whole system is down until the issue is resolved. With a micro inverter system if one panel or micro fail then the rest of the system will operate as normal. We will receive a notification of which component has failed and we can arrange to resolve the issue as soon as possible. When we complete the install we note which micro is where in the array so if there is an issue there is no wasted time testing to see which unit is the issue
Enphase have ticked every box with their Enlighten online monitoring. Not only can you view your home power consumption and production as standard you will be able to see the production of each individual panel. The micro inverters are connected to the Enphase Envoy (the brains), it will be installed close to your switchboard. This device is then connected to you home internet router to connect the system to the internet via a wireless WiFi connection.
Difficult roof designs.
Occasionally we come across a roof that the architect has decided to make a little tricky for a solar install. With a string inverter system we need to have a minimum of 7 panels on a orientation for it to work efficiently (north etc), this isn’t always possible. With a micro inverter system because each panel has its own inverter we can have any number.
